European Union leaders will meet on November 22-23 in a bid to reach agreement on the bloc’s 2014-2020 budget, officials in Brussels confirmed on Monday. Diplomats say the special meeting in Brussels should prevent the fight over the budget from overshadowing an October summit meant to focus on the eurozone crisis, according to German press agency ‘dpa’. EU countries disagree on how much spending should be allowed for 2014-2020, with some pushing for greater restraint given the crisis. EU officials have warned that a deal has to be struck by the end of this year for the budget to be finalized in time for 2014.
