Currently on a visit to Japan, Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy received two phone calls from his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier and US envoy to the Middle East Martin Indyk respectively. Fahmy and Steinmeier discussed bilateral ties and developments regarding the implementation of the road map of Egypt, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday. The German top diplomat stressed his country's support for efforts by the interim government in Egypt to establish a true democracy that meets aspirations of the people and guarantees respect for human rights, the spokesman said. They agreed to meet in January, he added. Fahmy and Indyk discussed negotiations currently going on between Israel and Palestinians, the spokesman said, noting that Indyk conveyed a message from US Secretary of State John Kerry to Fahmy about the Middle East peace talks. Fahmy said it is important that the negotiations lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, the spokesman said.
