Fatah official: PA considering new UN bid

Fatah leader Muhammad Ishtayya said Wednesday the Palestinian leadership was holding talks about going to the UN General Assembly to seek statehood recognition. They will seek to be recognized on the 1967 borders by May or June, Ishtayya told Voice of Palestine radio. Ishtayya said the Quartet meeting on Wednesday was not a particularly important one and would not advance the peace process. The US is neglecting the situation until after its election in November, he said. The official added that Europe too has been distracted with an economic crisis while the Middle East is in turmoil. Israel, meanwhile, has rejected efforts made by the Quartet by continuing settlement expansion, he added.
