Ramallah - Ma’an

The prime minister in Ramallah denounced Israel's "resort to force" against non-violent protests in the West Bank, after a demonstrator suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Salam Fayyad said he held the Israeli government completely responsible for "this crime," but he said the international community should do more to compel Israel to end its "recklessness" toward Palestinian life. “We have already warned all components of the international community, especially the international Quartet, on several occasions of the dangers of maintaining silence while Israel’s violence continues against non-violent protests our people carry out,” a statement said. Fayyad reiterated that he has regularly denounced Israeli assaults and asked the international community to exert efforts to try and get the government to stop acting so aggressively. Fayyad said that not long before Talat Ramia was killed near Qalandiya, another young Palestinian man Mustafa Tamimi was shot dead during a non-violent protest in Nabi Salih village. "While the international community and the Quartet issues statements only, the killing of Palestinians, settlement expansion, land confiscation, house demolitions and settler terrorism among other violations of international law seem to continue," Fayyad said.
