First of 20 Sukhoi SuperJet-100 airliners arrives in Mexico

The first airliner Sukhoi Superjet-100 arrived at the international airport of the Mexican city of Toluca under the contract for the delivery of 20 SuperJet-100 airliners for the local airline Interjet. According to representatives of the air carrier and the crew of the airliner, the flight of the airliner from Venice through Iceland, Canada and the United States passed as scheduled. The agreement, which Interjet has signed with the company SuperJet International (SJI), entails the Mexican air carrier receiving all required spare parts for the purchased airliners from the supplier. It also envisages timely maintenance of the airliners. “Through putting of the Sukhoi SuperJet-100 airliners in operation, we intend to substantially expand the number of flights and the flight routes in Mexico and neighbouring countries,” Interjet Director General Jose Luis Garza told Itar-Tass. In his words, Russian-Italian airliners are planned to be used for flights in the U.S. and countries in Central America and the Caribbean. Garza noted that a second Sukhoi SuperJet-100, which is ready for a flight from Venice, is expected to arrive in Toluca in 7-8 days. The Mexican airline will receive a third airliner of this type at the end of September; after this Interjet will be receiving one airliner a month. These airliners will be based at such large airports in Mexico as Guadalajara, Monterrey, Cancun and Tijuana, Director General of the Mexican airline said. Interjet is a joint venture of Alenia Aermacchi and the Sukhoi Aviation Holding Company. It became the first airline in Latin America to purchase a batch of Sukhoi SuperJet-100 airliners. “This airliner model is absolutely suitable for the company in terms of its technical parameters,” Garza noted.
