A vicar in Nottinghamshire had them swinging in the aisle when she led a ‘flash mob’ dance routine during a wedding service. The Reverend Kate Bottley began to move to C&C Music Factory’s 1990 hit Everybody Dance Now after proclaiming Gary and Tracey Richardson man and wife. Her energetic moves were matched by the couple, the choir and finally most of the congregation at St Mary’s and St Martin’s Church in Blyth. The wedding party danced down the aisle as the background music switched to Celebration – and two older wedding guests made a sharp exit. After about two minutes, the jubilant couple returned to the altar – but Ms Bottley couldn’t resist one final energetic shake before resuming the service. On their YouTube page, the Richardsons – from Sheffield – reveal the unusual celebration was their vicar’s idea. They wrote: ‘Whilst planning our wedding we knew we wanted something a bit different. Upholding tradition but with a modern twist. So when our incredibly accommodating and inspiring vicar, Rev Kate Bottley, suggested a “flash mob”, we were sold!’ The couple rehearsed with choreographer Dawn Cherry and musical director of Blucrew – a fundraising group for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, near Sheffield – and 28 family members and friends. The Richardsons added: ‘We set about rehearsals to create something unique and that would bring our service to life.’ Ms Bottley, 38, told the Nottingham Post: ‘You do get used to being up in front of people being a vicar, but I am always a bit nervous before weddings. ‘I was nervous before this, but I am not shy and actually quite an extrovert.’ The former secondary school teacher said she also had a ‘bit of a passion’ for 90s rap music and was well known for her running man dance moves.
