Expats from the Future Movement and the Syrian American Council called for an international investigation into the assassination of Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hasan, who died Friday in a car bombing in Ashrafieh. “We demand the establishment of an independent special tribunal to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of the terror attack,” a statement issued by the Future Movement in the U.S. and the SAC, an organization that supports democracy and relations with the U.S. in Syria, said. In a joint statement, the Syrian American Council and Future Movement-USA said: “We offer our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in this heinous crime, and demand an independent international investigation into the bombing.” “Based on the Syrian government’s history of meddling in the internal affairs of Lebanon, we have no doubt that the Assad regime is behind this crime that killed and injured innocent civilians. The Syrian regime is now clearly threatening the peace and stability of the entire region,” the statement added. The SAC and the Future Movement also called on the international community to support the Syrian people in toppling Assad regime. \"We call for the establishment of a no-fly zone to stop the aerial bombardment of Syrian cities and provide support to vetted elements of the Free Syrian Army to defend the Syrian people from Assad’s atrocities,\" said the statement. Meanwhile, the Future Movement in Toronto filed a petition ahead of the Canadian government asking it to help in speeding up the process of bringing assassins to justice via the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. “We call on our Canadian government to assist in protecting the Lebanese people especially in light of the inefficiency of their government and pressure the Lebanese government to expel the Syrian ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdulkarim Ali,” a press release issued by the movement said Tuesday. It also called on the Canadian government to join their quest to overthrow Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s government. From DailyStar
