Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel said in remarks published on Monday that even if Monday’s national dialogue session proves unable to deal with major contentious issues, it would still be able to achieve the minimum requirements for stability in Lebanon. “If it becomes clear that circumstances are not ripe for resolving major contentious issues, we can at least reach an agreement on problems related to people’s [daily] life and pave the way for reaching minimum levels of stability,” Gemayel told As-Safir newspaper. “Everyone should show willingness to resolve problems [for the sake] of the Lebanese people,” he added. Gemayel also said that his party will present a proposal regarding the strategic defense strategy, which is supposed to create a framework for resolving the issue of Hezbollah’s weapons. The national dialogue committee will convene Monday at the Baabda Presidential Palace upon President Michel Sleiman’s request.
