Security sources told The Daily Star Thursday that Metn MP Sami Gemayel was advised to take precautions against a possible assassination attempt. “Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi telephoned Gemayel, asking him to take the necessary precautions because he was threatened by an alleged assassination plot that would target him in the Metn town of Ain Safsaf,” said the source, referring to the head of the Internal Security Forces. The source said Rifi submitted the report to Prime Minsiter Najib Mikati, without disclosing further information. Gemayel confirmed the reports but said the threats would not stop him from publicly expressing his convictions. “These things neither scare us nor make us stop speaking the truth,” he said, and vowed to continue working for peace and freedom in the country. The Kataeb (Phalange) Party official’s brother Pierre was assassinated in broad daylight in the Metn neighborhood of Jdeideh in 2006. The report comes less than a week after other intelligence reports said there are alleged assassination plots to assassinate senior security officials and politicians. Beirut - The Daily star
