German unemployment held at a record low of 6.1% in July after the Federal Labour Agency reported a bigger-than-forecast fall in jobless queues last month.
The numbers out of work in seasonally adjusted terms in Europe's biggest economy fell 7,000 to 2.682 million, the Federal Labour Agency said on Thursday. Analysts had expected unemployment to drop by 4,000 this month, the (dpa) reported.
The unemployment rate remains at its lowest level since German unification in October 1990.
"The labour market developed positively in July," said Labour Agency chief Frank-Juergen Weise.
In seasonally unadjusted terms, the numbers out of work rose 47,000 to 2.661 million, the labour agency said reflecting the regular summer uptick as school leavers flood onto the jobs market.
The gain resulted in the unadjusted unemployment rate edging up to 6% in July from 5.9%.
