Alex Somuah Obeng, the Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive, has called on Ghanaians to guard against violent tendencies to ensure a successful and peaceful general election in December. He said the essence of the country’s independence was to use the national resources to provide care and comfort to the needy in the society. Mr Obeng said this when addressing the 55th Independence Day Anniversary parade at Nkawkaw under the theme “Sustaining Peace and Democracy for National unity and development”. He called for the exhibition of high level of decorum in dealing with issues of national concern adding that as a nation it was important to show respect and give credit to where it was due and warned that if care was not taken, a time would come when credible and qualified people in the country would shy away from taking up positions and appointments in public offices for fear of intimidation and unnecessary attacks. Mr Obeng called for constructive criticisms, which should be directed at issues and not personalities adding that the nation’s developmental problems and challenges were many and needed time to be solved. He said there was the need for Ghanaians to come together as citizens of one nation fighting a common enemy of poverty, disease and under development. Over 20,000 school children from the primary, Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools, Security Agencies and Voluntary Organisations took part in a colourful march past at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium.
