British Foreign Secretary William Hague on Thursday stressed to Prime Minister Najib Mikati his country’s support for Lebanon and inquired about the efforts that are being made by the Lebanese government to aid the Syrian refugees, the premier’s office said. Mikati is in London to attend the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. He is accompanied by Youth and Sports Minister Faisal Karami. According to Mikati’s office, Hague lauded the dialogue sessions held in Lebanon, hoping they will continue for the sake of the country. The British official also stressed the importance of preserving stability in southern Lebanon, announcing that his government will double its aid to the Lebanese army. Hague said the issue of aid would be discussed during Army Commander General Jean Qahwaji’s planned visit to Britain in September.
