A leading Hamas official stressed on Monday that the visit of the movement's political bureau head khaled Meshaal to the Gaza Strip is linked to security situation in the enclave, noting that Meshaal is among Palestinian officials targeted by Israel. "Meshaal told me he is eager to visit Gaza Strip," Dr Ahmed Youssef said, adding that the visit, in case it occurred, would take place during Hamas' celebrations of the 25th anniversary of its establishment, to fall on December 8. As for the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's visit to the UN to seek s a non-member status for Palestine in the international organization, he said "I, personally, support this step", adding that there are disagreements within Hamas towards this bid. He urged Abbas to accelerate the implementation of reconciliation deal with Hamas as soon as he comes back from New York to end internal divisions. Youssef Rezaka, adviser to Gaza prime minister, said there are no security fears threatening Meshaal's life if he visited the enclave, saying any Arab or Palestinian official can safely visit gaza.
