Highway attack claims over 10 lives in northern Nigeria

More than 10 people were killed Sunday by suspected members of Boko Haram in Nigeria\'s northeastern region bordering Cameroon, according to information monitored here. A group of gunmen launched a highway raid on motorists early in the morning at Logumani, a town near the border, witnesses reported. There has been no confirmation of the attack by either local authorities or the militant sect of Boko Haram, which suffered a deadly blow only days ago in the northeastern state of Borno. The Nigerian military on Tuesday announced the killing of 40 Boko Haram fighters in the state in operations against the insurgents, who were alleged to attempt coordinated attacks in the three remote towns of Bama, Gwoza and Pulka. The Boko Haram sect has proved the biggest security threat in the West African country since launching the insurgency in 2009. It seeks to enshrine the Islamic sharia law into the into the constitution and declares war against the Western education.
