Honduran president proposes policies to fight against international crime

Honduran President Porfirio Lobo said here on Saturday that innovative policies are needed for cracking down on international organized crimes, as insecurity is still an enormous obstacle for the region\'s development. In his speech at the two-day Ibero-American Summit, the Honduran president said he believes that sustainable development, the promotion of education and health, and fighting against poverty are essential to achieve peace and guarantee democracy in the region. Lobo stressed that innovative security policies are essential to achieve real progress in the fighting against delinquency, saying \"the usual measures only make us mourn, we have to do something new.\" Lobo pointed out that international collaboration is needed in facing up to organized crimes. \"An effective support requires encouraging an international effort and adopting innovative policies and measures to achieve real progress in the fight against crimes,\" he said. Lobo said that Honduras continues to fight against the attacks launched in several ways by transnational organized crime groups. The Ibero-American Summit ended on Saturday afternoon with a final declaration and a resolution. The 23rd Ibero-American Summit was held in Panama City, capital of Panama under a theme \"The political, economic, social and cultural role of the Ibero-American Community within a new global context.\"
