Human rights dialogue between Sudan and Japan restarted

Embassy of Japan in Sudan and human rights officials from the Government of Sudan had a kick-off meeting for \"Human Rights Dialogue between Sudan and Japan\" at the Japanese Ambassador\'s residence, reported Japan embassy in a press release today. H.E. Mr. Ryoichi Horie, Ambassador of Japan to Sudan invited H.E. Mrs. Rahma Salih El Obeid, Director of Human Rights Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Muaz Ahmed Mohamed Tungo, Rapporteur of the Advisory Council for Human Rights (ACHR) and other Sudanese officials from Ministry of Culture and Information, Ministry of Justice, and Humanitarian Aid Commission. At the meeting, all participants agreed to activate the bilateral human rights dialogue between Sudan and Japan to tackle the human rights issues in Sudan, which started from 2002, while Ambassador Horie said that he welcomes \"National Plan for Enforcement and Protection of Human Rights in Sudan (2013-2023)\" which was launched by ACHR on June 19th. Japan has paid closely its attention to the human rights situations in Sudan and looked into the Sudanese Government\'s efforts through bilateral and multilateral channels with Sudan as a member of the international community, said Ambassador Horie and stressed that Japan will make its utmost efforts to cooperate with Sudan for further improvements in human rights conditions in this country, by exchanging lessons learned or opinions in the coming dialogues between ACHR and the Embassy of Japan. On their part, H.E. Mrs. Rahma and Dr. Muaz also welcomed the activation of the human rights dialogue between Sudan and Japan, and both sides agreed to have the Fifth Technical Level Dialogue in August 2013 or later.
