Thousands of Hungarian Jews protested in Budapest against an ultra-right-wing party after a party member in Parliament called for a register of Jews. During the Sunday rally attended by Jews and other opponents to the proposal, scenes from a movie about Jews being shot by Hungarian Nazis in 1944 were played and portraits of Jobbik Party member Marton Gyongyosi sporting a Hitler mustache were displayed, the World Jewish Congress reported Monday. \"I came because in this situation I cannot stay quiet. Hungary defends its citizens,\" said Antal Rogan, chairman of the ruling Fidesz Party in Parliament. \"Genocide is always preceded by lists,\" Rogan said. It is unacceptable that \"people should fail to learn the lessons of the past 100 years,\" he said. Gyongyosi\'s remarks were made following a debate on the fighting in Gaza and later withdrawn after he said they had been misunderstood, Euronews reported. Jobbik officials dismissed the protest as \"political alarmist.\"Type the text here
