Hungarian President Janos Ader called for "patriotism combined with joie de vivre" in his televised New Year address Wednesday. Year 2014 was "another fair white page for us to write our own words, our own history on," Ader said shortly after midnight ushered in the new year, adding he would like to write the word "patriotism" onto the page. Patriotism meant "respecting others and accepting ourselves, appreciating all that has come down to us from our ancestors, and all that we have preserved and will leave for the future generations," he said. Ader said Hungarians had much to be proud of and the country's culture, science and language were all outcomes of patriotism.
