
India on Saturday inducted the largest Russian-built aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya, into its Navy on Saturday to strengthen its maritime capabilities. According to the government sources, Indian defence minister A K Antony commissioned the aircraft carrier into the Indian Navy at the Northern Artic Port of Russian at Sevmash Shipyard. At the commissioning ceremony, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and senior government and naval officials of both countries were present, the sources said. The much-awaited air craft career costs India around USD 2.3 billion, the sources said, adding, the carrier was actually scheduled to be delivered in 2008, but it could not meet the deadline. It has already been reported that warships will escort the aircraft carrier from Russia to India on possibly two-month voyage to its at Karwar on the Arabian Sea coast
