India, Pakistan hold peace talks

Indian Foreign Minister Ranjan Mathai and his Pakistani Counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani held bilateral talks here on Wednesday. Talks between the two sides dealt with peace and security to build confidence between the two countries and resolving issues of terrorism and conflict over Kashmir as well as ways to strengthen bilateral relations. Analysts believe that the internal political situation in Pakistan has hampered the progress in the dialogue between the two nuclear powers who have fought three wars since independence in 1947. In the wake of Mumbai attacks, India suspended the bilateral peace process in 2004 over the disputed territory of Kashmir, but agreed to resume it in February 2011.
