Indian MP reddy to be released

A regional leader in India charged with corruption is likely to be released from prison after 16 months, according to the BBC. MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was granted bail by a court in southern Andhra Pradesh state. Reddy was arrested in May 2012 and charged with \"criminal conspiracy, cheating and falsification of accounts\". He denies all charges. He is the son of YSR Reddy, the charismatic former state chief minister who died in a helicopter crash in 2009. Both the father and the son were members of India\'s governing Congress party. But after his father\'s death, the Congress ignored his bid for the chief minister\'s post and he quit accusing the party of humiliating him and his family. Later, he launched his own party, YSR Congress. On Monday, a court granted bail to Reddy but restrained him from leaving the capital, Hyderabad, without its permission. The court also directed him to not to influence witnesses and tamper with the evidence.
