Indian security forces kill 2 northeast militants

Indian security forces have killed two militants from the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) rebel group in the northeast Indian state of Assam, reported Indo-Asian News Service on Sunday. A gun battle between the rebels and a joint team of police and security took place in Jharpara in Goalpara district, around 110 km from the state capital Guwahati, Saturday night, said the report. The two members of GNLA, a militant outfit based in the neighboring state Meghalaya's Garo Hills region, were killed after security forces cordoned off the area following a tip-off. They resorted to retaliatory firing after the militants opened fire, said the report.
