Iran\'s FM meets Polish, New Zealand, Singaporean, Belarusian counterparts in New York

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif discussed major regional and world issues in separate meetings with his counterparts from Poland, New Zealand, Singapore and Belarus in New York. The meetings were held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Wednesday. During the meetings, he discussed the latest situation in bilateral ties as well as the latest developments in the region, specially Syria crisis as well as Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities. Zarif is in New York to take part in the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly, which opened on September 17. Iran\'s President Hassan Rouhani also traveled to New York on Monday to take part in the event. President Rouhani addressed the UN meeting on September 24. During meetings with his counterparts on the sidelines of the UN meeting, President Rouhani discussed the latest developments in the region, specially in Syria, as well as bilateral ties. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to reports, the western powers and their regional allies - specially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria. According to the UN, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence.
