Iran: Terrorists seeking to hinder reform process in Syria

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ramin Mehmanparast condemned on Saturday the recent terrorist attacks in Syria. Two explosions struck the heart of Damascus on Saturday, killing at least 27 people in an attack on security installations, Reuters reported. Mehmanparast said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the terrorist attacks and the explosions carried out in the Syrian capital were meant to take revenge on the Syrian people for their show of strength in support of the system and the stability of the country.” Iran “expresses sympathy with the Syrian people and government and maintains that such measures will lead to instability and insecurity in the region, responsibility for which lies with those who have put arming and provoking armed groups on their agenda,” he added. Mehmanparast also said that those who take such measures “under the pretext of supporting the demands and aspirations of the people are definitely trying to target the process of lasting reforms, peaceful nation-state negotiations, and the restoration of stability and security” in the country.
