As he stresses that a plan to close the Strait of Hormuz was ready, Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic won’t close the maritime passage unless its interests are threatened. Major General Seyed Hassan Firuzabadi reiterated that Iran did have the plan to shut down the strategic Strait but would only execute it if the nation’s security was threatened. "We do have the plan to close the Strait of Hormuz since a member of the military must plan for all scenarios," Major General Firuzabadi said Friday night on the sidelines of the Conference on the Doctrine of Mahdism, Mehr News Agency reported. "However," he added, the Iranian nation" acts reasonably and would not approve of the interruption of a waterway through which 40 percent of the world’s energy supply passes, unless our interests are seriously threatened." General Firuzabadi further stated that "our control over the Hormuz Strait remains smart and reasonable."
