A senior Iranian legislator warned the US against a military invasion of Syria, and said the Muslim countries will take retaliatory measures against Israel, meaning that the Zionist regime is a hostage of the regional Muslim nations. \"Today, the Americans have an ally, namely the Israeli regime, which is a hostage of the region and whose neck is in the Muslims\' hand,\" Vice-Chairman of the parliament\'s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mansour Haqiqatpour told FNA on Sunday. He warned the US to avoid the mistake of beating on the drums of war against Syria, and said if war breaks out \"the regional states and certain world countries will criticize the Americans\' behavior and rise to support the Syrians\". According to the recent opinion polls conducted in the West, more than 50 percent of Americans are against their government’s military strike on Syria. While US President Barack Obama has accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons against its civilians in Damascus suburb of al-Ghouta, he has provided no evidence whatsoever to the UN Security Council to prove his claim. Russian President Vladimir Putin has called on President Obama to provide the UN Security Council with documents and evidence showing that the Syrian army has used chemical weapons against the civilians in Damascus. Putin has underlined that no evidence has been given on the use of chemical weapons by the government of Syria, adding that Russia does not believe that Syrian government has used chemical weapons since they have been advancing in the war and did not need to do it.
