Iranian, Tunisian presidents stress necessity to fight terrorism in Syria

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Tunisian counterpart Moncef Marzouki in a meeting in New York underlined the necessity for fighting terrorist groups acting against the Syrian people. During the meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting, Rouhani and Marzouk pointed to the cooperation between the two countries in the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, and underlined importance of fight against terrorism in the region, including in Syria, to protect reputation of Islamic world. They also called bilateral relations important in all fields. The two presidents discussed the latest developments in the region as well as bilateral ties on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting. Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since March 2011. According to reports, the western powers and their regional allies - specially Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria. According to the UN, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence.
