Iran's national security chief Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Sunday that his country stands against any foreign intervention in Syria, stressing the Non-Aligned Movement summit being in Tehran aims at creating a chance to help resolve the 18-month-old crisis in Syria. Boroujerdi made the remarks after a number of meetings held Sunday in the Syrian capital Damascus, in which he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, his deputy Farouq al-Shara'a and Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem. The talks have touched upon the fresh initiative by Iran, which is to be discussed at the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Tehran. The Iranian security chief, on a two day visit to Syria, unleashed scathing criticism on the U.S. and its regional allies and accused them of not supporting a political solution to the crisis but rather pushing towards militarization of the crisis. He reiterated his country's support to Syria, saying that "we are at full readiness to provide the suitable ground for undergoing discussions with the Syrian opposition with the participation of the Syrian government and we think that the only way out of this crisis is the political one." He said the Syrian government has agreed to embark on a dialogue with the opposition.
