Iran\'s senior MP: Resistance insures Syria\'s political future

Chairman of the Iranian parliament\'s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi reiterated Iran\'s continued support for the Syrian government and nation, saying that the resistance shown by the Muslim country against foreign plots and threats will insure its political future.Boroujerdi made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian Ambassador to Iran Adnan Mahmoud here in Tehran on Tuesday.\"The resistance shown by the Syrian nation and government against the world powers will insure the country against the greedy eyes of the foreigners,\" Boroujerdi said.Iranians consider Syria as a brotherly and friendly country in the frontline of resistance against the occupying regime of Israel, and feel responsible vis-à-vis the Muslim country\'s developments, he continued.The Syrian envoy, for his part, thanked Iran for its stances towards his country, and said, \"Iran and Syria in the resistance front against their common enemy have always been united and the two countries should increase their cooperation at all levels in a bid to strengthen this front.\"Earlier this year, Mahmoud lauded Tehran\'s full support for the efforts made by the government in Damascus to hold comprehensive national dialogue with the various streams of the Syrian opposition groups.The Syrian envoy noted that the Syrian government is pursuing a plan to hold dialogue with all Syrian political factions, and said that all Syrians are calling for the exit of foreign-backed armed rebels from Syria.The Islamic Republic of Iran, which is a staunch supporter of the establishment of security and stability in Syria, has practically made a series of moves in the same regard, including its recent call for ceasefire which was staged in Syria in October, and the holding of the Syrian National Dialogue conference in Tehran between the Syrian opposition and government in November.Over 200 Syrian religious and political figures, leaders of tribes and parties as well as representatives and leaders of the opposition groups joined the two-day meeting in Tehran.A number of Syrian parliament members as well as senior political figures from Sudan, Algeria, Turkey, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Brazil and Zimbabwe also took part in the meeting.Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country.The US and its western and regional allies have long sought to topple Assad and his ruling system. Media reports said that the Syrian rebels and terrorist groups have received significantly more and better weapons in recent weeks, a crime paid for by the Persian Gulf Arab states and coordinated by the United States.
