Undersecretary of the Iraqi Foreign Ministry , Labid Abawi discussed at a meeting Tuesday with the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, Hassan Danaie the situation on the Iraq- Iran border and the continued Iranian shelling of villages in Iraq’s Kurdistan. A foreign ministry statement said Abawi demanded an immediate halt to the Iranian shelling and finding a suitable milieu for serious talks between representatives of both countries to discuss border problems. Border areas in Kurdistan come under continuous shelling by Iran that causes damage to property in border areas, forcing many to leave their villages. Iran says it was pursuing elements of an opposition Kurdish movement.
