Al Azhar backs Macedonia's Muslims

Secretary General of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif Islamic Research Academy (IRA) Dr Mohddin Afifi expressed on Wednesday Al Azhar support for Muslims in Macedonia in line with the directives of the Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb to pay attention to the Muslims in Balkans.
Afifi's statements came in a meeting with a Macedonian religious affairs official currently visiting Egypt to discuss religious cooperation between the two countries including training Macedonian imams on dealing with religious bigotry and extremism.
The Macedonian religious official praised Al Azhar as a beacon for Muslims worldwide and called for increasing scholarships to Macedonian students to study at Al Azhar.
