Israel bans firing cannon during Ramadan

Israel banned Muslims firing a Ramadan cannon to announce the end of fasting for the day. Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Palestinian Recai Sanduga said he had been firing the cannon during the holy month of Ramadan to mark the time of fast-breaking meals in Jerusalem for 25 years. \"This is an Islamic tradition and a cultural heritage dating back to Ottomans who fired the first cannon of Ramadan in Jerusalem,\" said Sanduga, adding it was his family who carried on the tradition since Ottoman times.    He said Israel banned firing the cannons in Jerusalem on Tuesday reasoning that there were people on the streets. Firing a cannon is one of the traditions of Ramadan announcing the end of fasting for the day.
