Israeli forces on Monday detained two men, including the Imam of a mosque, in a village in the southern West Bank, a local official and the army said. Soldiers raided Safa, north of Beit Ummar, at dawn, popular committee spokesman Muhammad Awad said in a statement. They searched the home of 54-year-old Muhammad Adi, the Imam of Beit Ummar's mosque, and detained him, Awad said. Forces also raided the home of Raed Adi, 35, before detaining him, Awad added. An Israeli military spokeswoman said two people were detained in Safa. Awad said Israeli forces have detained 86 people from Beit Ummar this year, including 50 minors. Beit Ummar holds weekly demonstrations against Israel's confiscation of its land to build an illegal settlement.
