Disgraced former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. reported to federal prison near Raleigh, N.C., but was not immediately in custody due to a reported paperwork problem. \"He is not in BOP custody,\" Bureau of Prisons spokesman Ed Ross told United Press International early Tuesday. Jackson, 48, who represented Chicago\'s South Side and southern suburbs from 1995 until he resigned 11 months ago, reported to the Butner Federal Correctional Complex Monday afternoon. But he was told on sentencing Aug. 14 to report no earlier than Friday. Jackson, 48, son of the Rev. Jesse Jackson, was sentenced to 30 months after pleading guilty in February of spending $750,000 from his campaign on personal items. When he arrived at the prison Monday, he wasn\'t taken into custody due to a paperwork problem, WLS-TV, Chicago, reported, citing Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., who accompanied Jackson. The paperwork problem was being worked out, Butterfield said. Ross told UPI early Tuesday he did not know the reason for the delay. He didn\'t say if it was related to Jackson\'s early arrival. The \"BOP locator\" does not list Jackson in custody and is \"current information,\" he told UPI. But Ross said it was possible Jackson\'s status would change as the locator \"updates over the course of the night.\" Jackson, who is to be Inmate 32451-016, pleaded guilty to stealing $750,000 from his campaign from 2005 to 2012 to pay for luxury items, vacations, furs, celebrity memorabilia and even a pair of elk heads. His wife, Sandi, 49, a former Chicago alderman, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for omitting $580,000 in income from the couple\'s tax returns while they lived lavishly. U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson granted a request from the couple, who have two children, ages 9 and 13, that they be allowed to serve their sentences one at a time. Berman said when Jesse Jackson is released, Sandi Jackson will have 30 days to surrender.
