Japan claims all four disputed Kuril Islands

Japan’s Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda has stressed that Japan would not be satisfied if Russia proposes to share two of the four disputed Kuril Islands, Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan, Habomai. The reason, the PM said, is that the last two islands that are closest to Japan’s shores, and may arguably be passed to Tokyo, make up only 7 per cent of the disputed territories.
