Japan to send humanitarian aid for Syria

Japan will pledge around 10-million dollars in humanitarian aid for people displaced by the civil war in Syria at the upcoming Group of Eight Summit, Japan\'s NHK World reported Thursday. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will announce the assistance at the G8 meeting that begins on Monday in Northern Ireland. Abe will call for a united effort by the international community to put a stop to the serious humanitarian situation in Syria. In addition to about 10-million dollars in emergency aid for Syrian refugees, Abe will also promise about 100-million dollars in aid to Jordan to help the country deal with the influx of Syrian refugees crossing the border. At the G8 meeting, the participant leaders are expected to discuss Syria, the global economy, and Iran and North Korea\'s nuclear programs at the summit. Regarding North Korea, Abe will stress that the international community must send a strong message that it will not allow a nuclear-armed North Korea and will seek thorough implementation of UN resolutions. The Prime Minister will also seek support for his administration\'s efforts to resolve the abductions of Japanese nationals by North Korea.
