Japanese prime minister lands in Washington

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in Washington on Friday for a visit to the USA during which he meets US President Barack Obama to discuss a range of political, diplomatic and economic issues. In terms of economic issues, The two leaders would review of the status of our consultations over Japan’s potential interest in joining the Asia Pacific Partnership. Abe is reportedly looking for assurances from Obama that a comprehensive lowering of tariffs will not be a pre-condition to engaging in the Asia Pacific Partnership negotiations. They will also discuss North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and could possibly look to go to the Security Council once more. It is noted that Japanese trade investment in the US are responsible for about one million jobs inside the United States.
