Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi,
Amman - Emirates Voice

Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs, Ayman Safadi, said Jordan is engaged with its U.S. allies and strongly appreciates the commitment U.S President Donald Trump made to finding a Palestinian-Israeli peace deal that “would put us all on a track towards resolving all the conflicts and crises in the region.”

In an interview with CNN, Safadi added that “we continue to work with our American friends and we believe that the American involvement and engagement are keys to resolving the problem.”

The minister noted that it is going to be extremely difficult for peace talks to move without an active American role, noting that he had met with President Donald Trump’s special envoy for international relations, Jason Greenblatt, and discussed with him the current crisis in Jerusalem and cooperation together in working for a Palestinian-Israeli peace which would allow for comprehensive Arab peace.

On Jordanian lawmakers storming out from the Parliament today in protest on the crisis in Jerusalem and the Israeli embassy shooting incident, Safadi said the situation is extremely difficult because Jerusalem is a central issue not only to Jordanians, Palestinians and Arabs but also to Muslims all over the world, so Israel has to be careful pointing out to Jordan’s efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, to resolve this crisis and calm the situation in the holy city.

He warned that if the situation in Jerusalem is not brought to calm “we could be pushing towards the abyss and would put us into another cycle of violence.”

The minister added that there was some protests because the Israeli diplomat had to leave, noting that Jordan had no recourse but to do that, because it is a country that respects its obligations and the international law, calling for Israel to respect its obligations, allow for criminal justice to be achieved, cooperate and stop provocative messaging.
