King Abdulla II of Jordan today voiced his country’s deep concerns over the escalating violence in Syria, warning against dangerous repercussions on other neighbouring countries in the region. He also called for a peaceful settlement to put an end to the escalating violence and bloodshed and stop the Syrian people’s suffering. The Jordanian monarch voiced his country’s stance as he received Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr, stressing the necessity to exert all efforts to bring the stalled Mideast peace process back on track and help the Palestinians and Israelis to resume negotiations towards reaching a lasting and just settlement, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on the basis of the 1967 borders.
