Jordan King discusses regional developments with Kerry

Jordan's King Abdullah II discussed on Thursday with US Secretary of State John Kerry peace efforts between the Palestinians and Israelis, including developments of the Syrian crisis. The Jordanian leader stressed, during the meeting, support to US efforts to both sides of talks and to move forward with negotiations based on the two-state-solution and Arab peace initiative leading to a Palestinian independent state based on the June 1967 borders and East Jerusalem being its capital, a statement by the Royal Diwan said. King Abdullah affirmed on continuous of work and coordination between all parties involved in support of negotiations and an end to all remaining issues, including those tied with Jordan's interests based on a clear timetable. The statement noted that the international community is required to play a bigger role against Israel's unilateral procedures in occupied Palestinian territories, because they were illegal and form an obstacle to achieving peace. On the Syrian crisis, the Jordanian leader expressed his country's support in finding a comprehensive political solution to the crisis, and an end to the suffering of the Syrian people. For his part, Kerry briefed King Abdullah on efforts exerted by the US to ensure positive outcome in current negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis, expressing appreciations to Jordan's leadership in this regard. Kerry also praised Jordan's efforts to ease the suffering of the Syrian people, asserting support by the US in dealing with Syrian refugees.
