His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday called U.S. President Barack Obama to congratulate him for his reelection to a second term and said Jordan will work with his new administration on Middle East issues. During the phone conversation, the King expressed his “sincerest” congratulations for the confidence granted to him by the American people. He reiterated that Jordan would continue coordination and consultation with the new administration on various challenges in the region and the unprecedented developments it is witnessing, particularly those concerning efforts to achieve peace according to the two-state solution and the crisis in Syria. King Abdullah said the Palestinian issue remains the central problem in the region, stressing the need to restore the momentum in the peace process through prompt U.S. engagement to help Palestinians and Israelis to kickstart direct negotiations that address all final status issues toward setting up an independent Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also talked about the friendship and deep ties between Jordan and the United States and Obama stressed his interest to cement them in various fields.
