Jordanian monarch meets US secretary of state Clinton

King Abdullah II of Jordan has conferred here with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of the 67th session of the UN general assembly now in progress here. During the meeting, they discussed relations between the two countries and ways of boosting them in various fields. The King and Mikati stressed the importance of enhancing joint Arab action, cooperation and solidarity, in order to achieve the aspirations of the Arab peoples in a better future. On the other hand, the Jordanian monarch with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and discussed the latest developments in the Middle East, especially the Syrian crisis as well as efforts to revive the peace process between Palestinians and Israelis. King Abdullah underlined the need to intensify efforts of the international community to find a quick and comprehensive solution to the Syrian crisis, end the suffering of the Syrian people and pave the way for a political transition to achieve the aspirations of the Syrians in a better tomorrow. He pointed the need to support efforts of the joint UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi. He also reviewed the Kingdom's efforts to provide services to Syrian refugees and meet their humanitarian needs and underscored the importance of the U.S. role in supporting efforts to achieve just and comprehensive peace between Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state living in peace and security alongside Israel Clinton said her country was keen to support a quick solution to the Syrian crisis, and continue efforts to encourage Palestinians and Israelis resume peace negotiations.
