Jordon King discusses ties, region with New Zealand’s foreign minister

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday discussed with visiting Foreign Minister of New Zealand Murray McCully, bilateral ties and the latest developments in the Middle East. The King highlighted the need to forge closer cooperation between Jordan and New Zealand, mainly in the economic and investment fields. He said the visit of the Governor General of New Zealand to Jordan next month will provide an opportunity to build on ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. Talks during the meeting also dealt with efforts to revive the Middle East peace process to achieve a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue based on the solution that should lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders. On Syria, the King and McCully stressed the importance of finding a comprehensive solution that puts an end to bloodshed and violence and preserves Syria’s unity. King Abdullah reviewed Jordan’s efforts to host Syrian refugees and provide them with humanitarian and medical services. McCully expressed appreciation of His Majesty’s efforts to bring about peace and stability in the region as well as comprehensive reforms in the Kingdom. He also urged the international community to support Jordan to enable it to continue its services to the displaced Syrians. The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Director of the King’s Office Imad Fakhoury.
