Karadzic wants to force Mladic to testify at ICTY trial

The former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic wants former Bosnian Serb army chief Ratko Mladic to be forced to testify at his trial, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) announced on Thursday.Both Karadzic and Mladic both are charged with genocide, crimes against humanity and violations of the laws or customs of war committed during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina between 1992 and 1995. They are trialed separately at the ICTY.In the motion for subpoena, Karadzic said that attempts to obtain the voluntary cooperation of Mladic were unsuccessful. Karadzic wants Mladic to testify on July 29 this year. If Mladic actually makes a statement at his compatriot\'s trial, it\'s the first time the two men appear before the ICTY together.\"There are reasonable grounds to believe that General Mladic has information which can materially assist Dr Karadzic\'s case,\" said the motion. \"The testimony of General Mladic is necessary for a fair determination of the issues in this case.\"
