Sports and Youth Minister, Faysal Karami, said in a statement from Tripoli Friday that the attack on his convoy today was neither an assassination attempt nor an ambush, adding that he did not accuse anyone and waited for results of investigations by concerned security and judicial apparatuses. One of the cars in Karami's convoy was engulfed in flames today following a grenade attack in Azmi Street in the northern city of Tripoli as families of Islamist detainees held a sit-in to protest the continuing detention of the men. Five of Karami's bodyguards were injured, one of them in critical condition. Karami asserted that he completely supported the rightful cause of families of Islamists detained in Roumieh Penitentiary, and denied any knowledge as to who the attackers were. He called upon his supporters to keep the peace and not be dragged into strife.
