Kentucky whiskey theft may have been inside job

Someone made off with 6 cases of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon, a primo sipping whiskey distilled in Kentucky, worth about $26,000, police say. The theft apparently took place at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort over the past couple of months, but wasn\'t reported until Tuesday, Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton told The (Louisville) Courier-Journal, and may have been an inside job. No suspects had been identified, the newspaper said. The distillery is missing about $25,000 worth of 20-year-old Pappy, described by Melton as the \"mac daddy\" of bourbons, and about $675 worth of 13-year-old Van Winkle Family Reserve rye. The newspaper said Buffalo Trace had not responded to its inquiries about the purloined booze. The Courier-Journal said Buffalo Trace\'s website describes Pappy, which it produces in limited quantities, as \"the No. 1 rated Bourbon Whiskey in the world, with a 99 out of 100 rating by the World Spirits Championship.\"
