Kermit Gosnell, imprisoned for life for killing newborn infants at his Philadelphia abortion clinic, got a 30-year federal sentence Monday for drugs. During a hearing in U.S. District Court, Gosnell tried to make the case that he was not prescribing narcotics for money, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported. He said he was running a "pain management clinic" and was working on computer tracking to prevent patients from getting prescriptions illegally. U.S. District Judge Cynthia Rufe made the sentence concurrent with his state sentences, which guarantee the 72-year-old Gosnell will die in prison. Gosnell was arrested in 2010 after investigators raided the Philadelphia Women's Center. He was convicted in a May trial of carrying out illegal late-term abortions, killing infants born alive during the procedures, and given three consecutive life sentences. In July, Gosnell pleaded guilty to the drug charges. Several former employees who also pleaded guilty and agreed to testify against him are awaiting sentencing.
