King Abdullah II on Sunday discussed with Canadian Foreign Minister John Baird Jordanian-Canadian ties and the latest developments in the region, mainly the Syrian crisis. The King said that the accelerating development in Syria are a source of concern and called for concerted international efforts to find a political solution to the crisis that puts an end to violence and bloodshed and preserve Syria’s unity. His Majesty highlighted the burden shouldered by Jordan as a result of the influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom. He also valued support that Jordan is receiving from a number of countries to enable it to provide services to the refugees. On the peace process, the King urged the international community to work towards launching direct negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent and viable Palestinian state on the 1967 borders. The Canadian minister expressed appreciation of efforts led by His Majesty to achieve comprehensive reforms in the Kingdom as well as peace in the regions. He also expressed his country’s readiness to help Jordan in addressing challenges facing it as a result of hosting Syrian refugees.
