King meets UN and Arab League envoy to Syria

His Majesty King Abdullah II met on Wednesday with the UN and Arab League envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, who is currently visiting Jordan as part of his tour of the region. The King, who reviewed the latest developments in Syria, reiterated Jordan\'s supportive stance towards efforts aimed at finding a comprehensive political solution to the Syrian crisis that puts an end to the bloodshed and preserves the unity of Syria and its people His Majesty stressed his readiness to provide all support to ensure the success of Brahimi\'s mission. He warned that the continuously deteriorating situation in Syria, the rise of violence and failure to reach a political solution, will exacerbate the sufferings of the Syrian people and increase the number of Syrian refugees, the largest number being hosted by the Kingdom. The King also reviewed Jordan\'s efforts to deal with the large number of Syrian refugees on its territory, who are placing an increasing pressure on Jordan\'s limited resources. \"This makes it incumbent on the international community to help Jordan to enable it to continue providing services to the refugees,\" he added. The envoy briefed His Majesty about the efforts exerted in dealings with all the parties as well as preparations to hold the Geneva 2 Peace Conference later next month. Brahimi praised Jordan\'s efforts to host the Syrian refugees and provide them with services despite the economic hardship it faces, urging the UN members and donor countries to assist Jordan in this regard. The meeting was attended by Royal Court Chief Fayez Tarawneh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Nasser Judeh, Director of the King\'s Office Imad Fakhoury and the delegation accompanying the envoy.
