
The Second Gulf Defense and Aerospace Exhibition on Tuesday got underway at Mishref International Fair Ground under the sponsorship of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah. The exhibition, due till December 12, groups the Ministry of Defense, the Interior Ministry, the National Guard and more than 80 foreign and local companies, In a statement on the occasion, Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah said that the Ministry of Defense is sponsoring the fair in translation of the vision of His Highness the Amir and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, of transforming Kuwait into a regional commercial-economic center. The ministry is serving this approach by luring military equipment companies, with aim of examining the latest military innovations, the minister stated, adding that another objective is encouraging Kuwaiti youth to get enrolled in the military. For his part, the Assistant Chief of Staff of the Logistics and Supplies Department, Colonel Lavi Al-Azmi, said the Ministry of Defense aims to make the exhibit an opportunity for the citizens, namely youngsters, to get acquainted with duties and missions of the Kuwaiti Army, the Ministry of Interior and the National Guards. Such a demonstration of these forces and their tasks "help us to lure this segment (the youth) to join the ground, air, naval and support units of the military," Col. Al-Azmi said. The event includes live demonstration of military personnel activities. The participating companies are displaying latest innovations of military equipment. The fair inauguration was attended by the General Chief-of-Staff of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Al-Othman, Defense Ministry Undersecretary Jassar Abdulrazzaq Al-Jassar, ambassadors, ranking military and civil leaders.
